A true wilderness experience

Camp Doros is all about simplicity, space, and exploring one of Namibia’s most untouched regions

Overview

Camp Doros is one of those properties we recommend for travellers looking to get off the usual safari circuit. Located in a remote corner of Damaraland, the setting is wild and beautifully stark, with open plains, rocky outcrops, and desert landscapes that seem to stretch on forever.

What we really like about this camp is how quiet and uncrowded it feels. This isn’t a place for ticking off the Big Five, but rather for appreciating a completely different side of Africa. You might track desert-adapted elephants, follow lion footprints with your guide, or simply take in the scenery without seeing another vehicle all day.

The camp itself is small and low-key, which suits the setting perfectly. There’s a strong focus on guiding and exploration here, and the experience feels very genuine and unpolished in the best possible way.

Rooms

Simple, comfortable, and in tune with the environment

The tents at Camp Doros are designed to blend into the surrounding landscape, offering a comfortable base without taking away from the sense of being in the wild. They are spacious, with en-suite bathrooms and all the essentials you need for a remote stay.

This isn’t about luxury in the traditional sense, but everything is thoughtfully done. You’ll have a comfortable bed, hot bucket showers, and a quiet place to unwind after a day out exploring. The focus here is really on the experience rather than the room itself.

Activities

Explore Damaraland with expert guides

Activities at Camp Doros are centred around exploring this remote and fascinating region. Guided game drives are the main focus, with the chance to track desert-adapted elephants and, if you're lucky, desert lions.

Nature drives and walks are also a big part of the experience, giving you a closer look at the smaller details of the landscape – from tracks and plant life to the unique geology of the area.

We also really like the flexibility here. Days are shaped around what you want to do, whether that’s heading out early to track wildlife or taking it slow and enjoying the stillness of camp. Sundowners out in the landscape are a highlight, and a great way to end the day.
