Changa Camp is all about slowing things down and enjoying a different pace of safari
Changa Camp is one of those places we like to suggest when someone is looking for something a little different from the classic safari experience. Set within Matusadona National Park, right on the edge of Lake Kariba, it combines great wildlife viewing with a much more relaxed, lakeside feel.
What we really like here is the variety. You still have excellent game viewing, with elephant, buffalo and lion all found in the area, but it’s not just about game drives. Being on the lake opens up a completely different side of safari, with boat trips, fishing and beautiful sunsets over the water becoming a big part of the experience.
The camp itself is small and owner-run, with a friendly and unpretentious atmosphere. It’s comfortable without trying to be over the top, and the team do a great job of making you feel at home from the moment you arrive. It works particularly well as part of a longer Zimbabwe itinerary, adding a change of scenery and pace.
EnquireThe tents at Changa Camp are large and airy, each with an en-suite bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers, and plenty of space to relax. They’re well positioned to catch the breeze from the lake, which makes a big difference in the warmer months, and each has a private deck looking out towards the water.
EnquireChanga Camp offers a really nice balance of land and water-based activities. Traditional game drives take you into Matusadona National Park in search of big game, while guided walks are also available for those wanting to explore on foot.
Out on the lake, boat safaris are a highlight, giving you the chance to see elephants swimming between islands, as well as hippos and a wide variety of birdlife. Fishing is also on offer for those interested, particularly for tigerfish.
Sundowners by the water and relaxed afternoons back at camp are all part of the rhythm here, making it a great place to unwind while still enjoying a proper safari experience.
