Hoodia Desert Lodge is one we like for its relaxed feel, good hosting, and easy access to the iconic landscapes of the Namib.
Hoodia Desert Lodge is a small, owner-run property located just outside Sesriem Gate, the main entrance to Sossusvlei. It’s a really convenient base for exploring the dunes, while still feeling peaceful and removed from the more crowded areas.
The lodge sits along the Tsauchab Riverbed, with open desert views all around. It’s a calm place to come back to after an early morning in the dunes, with plenty of space and a slower pace that we really appreciate in this part of Namibia.
What stands out most for us here is the hosting. The team are genuinely warm and attentive, and everything runs smoothly without feeling overly formal. Meals are taken together in the evenings, often with a set menu that’s fresh and well prepared — a nice way to unwind and share stories from the day.
EnquireThe rooms at Hoodia Desert Lodge are large, standalone chalets, spaced out for privacy and designed to make the most of the surrounding views. Each one has an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, and a shaded veranda where you can sit and take in the desert landscape.
They’re not overly luxurious, but they’re very comfortable and well thought through, which is exactly what you want after a hot day exploring the dunes.
EnquireMost stays here revolve around visiting Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. The lodge arranges guided excursions into the park, usually setting off early to catch the best light and avoid the heat.
You can climb some of the famous dunes, explore the striking landscapes of Deadvlei, or visit Sesriem Canyon. Nature drives and sundowners closer to the lodge can also be arranged, which are a nice, more relaxed way to experience the area.
For many guests though, part of the appeal is simply having time to slow down — enjoying the quiet, the open space, and the changing colours of the desert throughout the day.
