Set on the Satemwa Tea Estate in southern Malawi, this is a very different kind of safari stop, offering space, history and a slower pace.
Huntingdon House is less about safari and more about taking time to unwind in a beautiful, historic setting.
We really like Huntingdon House for something a bit different within an itinerary. Set on the rolling hills of the Satemwa Tea Estate, it offers a calm and scenic break between safari destinations.
This is a historic house with plenty of character, surrounded by manicured gardens and endless views over tea plantations. It’s not a wildlife-focused stay, but that’s part of the appeal. Instead, it’s about slowing down, enjoying the setting, and experiencing a different side of Malawi.
The service is warm and personal, and the food is a highlight, often enjoyed on the lawn or veranda overlooking the estate. It works particularly well as a stop to break up a longer journey or to balance a more wildlife-heavy itinerary.
EnquireThe rooms at Huntingdon House are set within the main house and nearby cottages, each with its own style and character.
They are spacious and comfortable, with en-suite bathrooms and simple, classic furnishings that reflect the history of the property. Large windows and verandas make the most of the surrounding views across the gardens and tea fields.
EnquireActivities here are more relaxed and centred around the estate itself. You can take guided walks through the tea plantations, learn about the tea-making process, or simply explore the surrounding hills.
There’s also the option to visit nearby communities or enjoy birdwatching and nature walks. For many guests, though, the highlight is simply spending time at the house, whether that’s enjoying long meals, reading on the veranda, or taking in the views.
