Loisaba Tented Camp offers something a bit different to the Mara—more space, fewer vehicles, and a wider range of activities.
Loisaba Tented Camp is one of our favourite spots in Laikipia, mainly because of its setting. Perched on an escarpment, the views are incredible, and the whole place feels open and uncrowded, which is a nice contrast to busier safari areas.
The conservancy itself is vast, so you can head out on a game drive and not see another vehicle for long stretches. Wildlife is good here, including elephant, lion, and plenty of plains game, and it’s also an important area for conservation, particularly for wild dogs.
The camp strikes a nice balance between comfort and a more authentic safari feel. It’s well run, the guiding is strong, and there’s a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in for a few days.
EnquireThe tents at Loisaba are spacious and thoughtfully positioned along the escarpment, so each one makes the most of the views. Floor-to-ceiling openings at the front of the tents mean you can really take in the landscape, even from your bed.
They’re very comfortable without feeling overdone, with en-suite bathrooms, hot showers, and private verandas. One of the standout features here is the outdoor “star beds”, which can be set up on your deck for a night under the stars—something we’d definitely recommend if the weather is clear.
EnquireOne of the big draws of Loisaba is the variety of activities on offer. Game drives are still a key part of the experience, and with such a large conservancy, there’s plenty to explore.
But you can also head out on guided bush walks, go horse riding or camel trekking, or visit the anti-poaching and conservation projects in the area. There’s also the chance to spend time with the sniffer dogs unit, which is something quite unique to Loisaba.
Sundowners are a highlight here, often set up in some incredible locations overlooking the valley, and bush meals can be arranged to make the most of the surroundings.
