A relaxed and well-run camp in a prime area

Luangwa River Camp offers a really nice balance of comfort, location and excellent guiding

Overview

Luangwa River Camp is one of those camps we often suggest for a reliable, well-rounded safari in South Luangwa. It’s set right on the banks of the Luangwa River, which means there’s usually plenty of wildlife moving through camp, from elephants passing by to hippos in the water below.

What we like most here is the location. South Luangwa is known as one of the best parks in Africa for both game viewing and walking safaris, and being based here gives you access to a really productive area. The guiding is strong, and the mix of activities keeps things interesting throughout your stay.

The camp itself is comfortable without being over the top, with a friendly and relaxed feel. It works well for couples, families or anyone looking for a classic safari experience that still feels authentic and connected to the surroundings.

Activities

Walking safaris and game drives in one of Africa’s best parks

South Luangwa is known as the home of the walking safari, and it’s a big part of the experience here. Heading out on foot with experienced guides gives you a completely different perspective of the bush.

Game drives are also a key part of your stay, with excellent chances of seeing a wide range of wildlife, including predators. Night drives are particularly good in this area, offering the chance to spot nocturnal species that you wouldn’t normally see during the day.

Time back in camp is just as enjoyable, whether you’re watching animals along the river, relaxing by the pool or heading out for a sundowner as the day comes to an end.
