Set within the Okonjima Nature Reserve, this is a great place to slow down and experience Namibia’s wildlife in a more meaningful way.
Okonjima Luxury Bush Camp offers something a little different, with a strong focus on conservation and close-up wildlife encounters.
Okonjima Luxury Bush Camp is one we often include at the start or end of a Namibia itinerary, especially for those interested in conservation. It’s set within the Okonjima Nature Reserve, home to the AfriCat Foundation, so there’s a real sense of purpose behind your stay here.
What stands out for us is the chance to learn more about Namibia’s big cats, particularly leopard and cheetah, through guided activities that feel both engaging and informative. It’s not a typical “big five” safari experience, but that’s exactly the appeal.
The camp itself is small and well spaced out, with a quiet, relaxed feel. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy good wildlife sightings, but also take the time to understand a bit more about the challenges around conservation in the region.
It works really nicely as a stopover between Windhoek and Etosha, adding something a bit different to the overall trip.
EnquireThe chalets are set well apart from each other, offering plenty of privacy and lovely views out over the reserve. They’re more on the luxurious side, with large rooms, en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, and a private deck. It’s all very comfortable without feeling over the top, and a nice place to unwind between activities.
EnquireActivities at Okonjima are centred around the work of the AfriCat Foundation, which makes for a really interesting and slightly different safari experience.
Guided drives focus on tracking leopard and cheetah, giving you a good chance of sightings while also learning about their behaviour and conservation. Bush walks are also available, offering a slower, more detailed look at the environment.
There’s also the opportunity to visit the AfriCat Carnivore Care Centre, which gives more insight into the work being done to protect Namibia’s predators. Back at camp, the waterhole often attracts wildlife, so there’s usually something to watch even during downtime.
