Ongava Lodge

Overview

Ongava Lodge is one of those places we often recommend for a well-rounded Namibia safari. It sits within the Ongava Private Game Reserve, right on the edge of Etosha National Park, so you get the best of both worlds – the flexibility of a private reserve and easy access into Etosha’s famous salt pans.

The lodge itself is set up on a rocky outcrop, which means the views are pretty special, especially looking down onto the busy waterhole below. You don’t even need to leave camp to start spotting wildlife. Game drives here are consistently good, particularly for rhino, which Ongava is well known for protecting.

The overall feel is relaxed and comfortable rather than overly polished. It’s a place where the focus is on good guiding, strong conservation, and simply enjoying being out in nature. It works really well as part of a wider Namibia itinerary.

Rooms

Comfortable, private spaces with great views

The chalets are well spaced out along the ridge, each with its own veranda looking out over the reserve. They’re stone-built with that classic safari feel – cool, simple, and very comfortable without being overdone. Expect en-suite bathrooms, indoor showers, air conditioning, and plenty of space to unwind between activities.

Activities

Great game viewing, especially for rhino

Ongava Lodge offers a nice mix of activities thanks to its location. Game drives take place both inside Ongava Private Game Reserve and into Etosha National Park, giving you a wider variety of landscapes and wildlife encounters.

One of the highlights here is rhino tracking within the reserve, which is a real privilege and something Ongava does very well. Guided walks are also available, offering a different perspective on the bush.

Back at the lodge, the waterhole in front of camp is a constant draw for wildlife, so you can often enjoy sightings without going far. Sundowners and relaxed evenings around camp round off the day nicely.
