The Hide offers a comfortable and well-run safari in one of Zimbabwe’s best wildlife areas, with a focus on great guiding and time spent in nature.
The Hide Safari Lodge sits within Hwange National Park, overlooking a waterhole that attracts a steady flow of wildlife year-round. It’s one of those places where you don’t always need to go far to have a great safari — you can often sit back at camp and watch elephants, buffalo and other animals come in to drink.
The camp itself is well established and thoughtfully laid out, with a mix of main lodge areas and private tents set amongst the trees. The guiding here is consistently strong, with a good mix of game drives, walking safaris and time spent in hides, which gives a different perspective on wildlife encounters.
What we particularly like is the balance The Hide strikes — it’s comfortable without feeling overdone, and the experience still feels connected to the surrounding wilderness. It’s a great option for those looking to explore Hwange in a relaxed but immersive way.
EnquireThe rooms at The Hide are a mix of tented suites and more solid structures, all designed to blend into the natural surroundings. Each space is spacious and well thought out, with en-suite bathrooms and private verandas looking out into the bush.
They offer a good level of comfort without losing the feel of being in the wild, and the positioning of the rooms ensures privacy and a peaceful atmosphere throughout your stay.
EnquireActivities at The Hide focus on making the most of Hwange’s diverse wildlife and landscapes. Game drives take you through different parts of the park, with excellent chances of seeing elephants, predators and a wide range of plains game.
One of the standout experiences here is spending time in the photographic hides, positioned close to the waterhole. These allow you to quietly observe wildlife at eye level, often just metres away.
Guided walking safaris are also available, offering a slower and more detailed way to explore the bush. Back at camp, simply sitting and watching the waterhole can be just as rewarding as heading out on a drive.
