A gentle start or finish to your safari

Yellow House is a great place to slow things down, whether you’re just arriving in Kenya or winding down after time in the bush.

Overview

Yellow House at Sanctuary Farm is a really nice option for a more relaxed stay around Lake Naivasha. It’s set within a private wildlife sanctuary, so even though you’re not in a national park, you’ll still see plenty of animals wandering through—zebra, giraffe, antelope, and more.

We like it as a stop at the beginning or end of a safari. It’s peaceful, green, and feels very different to the drier safari areas, with big trees and open lawns leading down towards the lake.

The house itself has a homely, welcoming feel, and the whole experience is quite easygoing. It’s not about big game drives here, but more about enjoying the surroundings, stretching your legs, and taking a bit of time to relax.

Room

Comfortable and homely, with a relaxed feel

The rooms at Yellow House are simple and comfortable, more in line with a country house than a safari camp. Each one is en-suite, with everything you need for a short, easy stay.

There’s a mix of rooms in the main house and separate cottages, which works well for couples, families, or small groups travelling together. The overall feel is relaxed and informal, which suits the setting perfectly.

Activities

A slower pace, with plenty to enjoy around the lake

While this isn’t a traditional safari stop, there’s still plenty to do. One of the highlights is being able to walk or cycle around Sanctuary Farm, which is something you can’t do in most national parks. It’s a great way to experience the wildlife and scenery at a slower pace.

Boat trips on Lake Naivasha can be arranged, where you’ll often see hippos and a wide variety of birdlife. Crescent Island is also nearby and offers guided walks among zebra and giraffe.

Horse riding is another popular option here, and for those wanting a bit more adventure, Hell’s Gate National Park is a short drive away, where you can walk or cycle through dramatic landscapes.
