Safaris

Just 48 hours after landing in the Big Apple, we’ve already had a special surprise—bumping into a couple who spent their honeymoon on safari with us last year! What a small world! We’re here in New York to support Kevin Getobai, the manager of Ololo Farm, who was invited to participate in the United Nations Climate Week as one of just 12 global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Pioneers. We are beyond proud of Kevin and the incredible work he’s done with Ololo’s Black Soldier Fly project, which has the potential to help tackle food security in Kenya and beyond. We’re so excited for the upcoming awards ceremony and the global recognition of his achievements.

Exploring New York: A Journey of Connections

While here, we’ve been exploring the city, and the connections between Kenya and the United States have been more prevalent than we imagined. We visited the 9/11 Museum, where we discovered a touching story about Kenya’s Maasai tribe, who donated 14 cows to the US as a gesture of solidarity after hearing about the tragic events of September 11th. The Maasai’s generous spirit serves as a reminder of the strong cultural ties that unite us across continents.

We also had the chance to visit The Wildlife Wonders art installation, created by the renowned artist duo Gillie and Marc, who were inspired by their time at Ol Pejeta in Kenya. Their stunning large-scale bronze sculptures, which raise awareness about endangered species and wildlife conservation, are an inspiring tribute to Kenya’s rich biodiversity. It was moving to see Kenya’s influence displayed so prominently in New York, bridging the gap between these two incredible places.

A Shared Vision for Conservation

Being in New York has been a wonderful reminder of how interconnected our world is, and how Kenya’s wildlife and conservation efforts resonate with people from all walks of life. Through Kevin’s participation at the United Nations and the art installations inspired by Kenya, we feel more determined than ever to continue our work in conservation and sustainable tourism.

We want to thank everyone here in New York for welcoming us so warmly. We look forward to the rest of our stay and can’t wait to return to Kenya, inspired and energized. For those who haven’t yet experienced a safari with Ololo Safaris, we hope this inspires more Americans to join us on an unforgettable journey through Kenya’s wilderness.

Stay tuned for more updates from our New York adventure and Kevin’s incredible recognition at the UN!
