Family-friendly Safaris Travel tips Victoria Falls

Charley and I just got back from an incredible trip that we can’t wait to share with you, a real reminder of why we do what we do.

First up was two nights at The Cliff, perched right on the edge of Lake Nakuru. The views from our tent were out of this world. You feel like you’re floating above the lake. Our game drives around Nakuru were simply amazing. The park is packed with wildlife, and the birdlife is something else. Everywhere you look there are flamingos, pelicans, herons, and the lake was alive with colour. One of the real highlights was a boat safari on the lake itself, which gave us a completely different perspective. Being out on the water with all the birds flying around and hippos popping up to say hello was something really special.

From there we made our way to Enkewa Camp in the Masai Mara for three nights. If you haven’t been before, it’s a very authentic, intimate camp in a gorgeous part of the Mara. Our game drives were superb, we were lucky enough to see four of the Big Five in our first day. On our second morning we did a hot air balloon flight, which was absolutely breathtaking. Floating over the Mara at sunrise as the animals began their day is one of those once in a lifetime experiences you just don’t want to end.

And as if that wasn’t enough adventure for one trip, we also had a great time swimming and fishing in a hidden waterfall nearby. The water was crystal clear and refreshing after a dusty morning game drive. Our rods weren’t idle for long, we managed to catch quite a few catfish, which was a fun surprise.

By the time we packed up to head home, we felt completely spoiled: amazing game drives, incredible scenery, delicious food, warm campfires at night, and all those little moments that remind us how lucky we are to live and work in this part of the world.

If you’re looking for a diverse, nature filled safari with a few surprises thrown in, this combo of Lake Nakuru and the Masai Mara is well worth considering. Let us know if you’d like us to put something similar together for you, we’d love to help you plan your own adventure!
