Helping families experience Kenya together is one of our favourite parts of what we do, and it was a real pleasure helping plan a short safari adventure for the Anbardan family from the USA.
Travelling as a family of five often means finding that balance between wildlife, adventure, downtime, and experiences that work for everyone. With a shorter trip, we wanted to create an itinerary that felt relaxed and varied, without trying to cram too much in.
Their journey began with three nights at Ololo Safari Lodge & Farm on the edge of Nairobi National Park. We always love starting safaris here as it gives families time to settle into Kenya properly after a long journey. Instead of rushing straight into multiple flights and transfers, Ololo offers a softer landing. Time to slow down, enjoy the farm, head out on game drives, visit the nearby elephant orphanage, and begin adjusting to the rhythm of safari life.
From Nairobi they headed to one of our favourite nearby escapes, the Yellow House at Sanctuary Farm on Lake Naivasha. It is hard not to love this place. Set on a beautiful farm overlooking the lake, it offers a completely different side of Kenya. Over two nights the family enjoyed boat rides among hippos and birdlife, peaceful walks around the property, and even a family photoshoot to capture memories together. Sometimes it is these quieter moments between safaris that become some of the most memorable parts of a trip.

The adventure then continued to the Masai Mara with a stay at Basecamp Wilderness. This camp offers a different kind of safari experience, with a stronger focus on getting out of the vehicle and experiencing the bush on foot. Walking safaris create a very different connection with nature and are always something we love including where possible.
Alongside the walks, the family enjoyed night game drives and some incredible wildlife encounters, including elephants and all the excitement that comes with exploring the Mara after dark. There is something pretty special about hearing the sounds of the bush at night and seeing wildlife in a completely different way.
After three nights in the Mara, they flew back to Nairobi for a final relaxed afternoon before heading home. We often encourage families to leave a little breathing room at the end of a safari rather than racing straight to the airport. A shower, a good meal, and time to reflect on the trip before a long international flight can make all the difference.
Kenya packs an incredible amount into a relatively small area, and even with a shorter itinerary, the Anbardan family experienced a wonderful mix of wildlife, landscapes, adventure, and slower family moments.
It was such a pleasure helping put this journey together and we hope we can welcome them back one day to discover even more of Kenya. Next time perhaps Laikipia, the coast, or Northern Kenya awaits.
