The perfect combination of wildlife, sweeping landscapes, and a relaxing end on the coast.

We love organising safaris for families! That’s because many years ago we were once a young family who were able to enjoy exploring East Africa together, and it quite literally changed our lives! There’s nothing quite like sharing these experiences with your kids, spending quality time whilst learning about African wildlife, history and cultures.

This family safari itinerary includes Ololo Safari Lodge & Farm, El Karama Lodge in Laikipia, Entumoto Camp in the Masai Mara, and a relaxing (or adventurous) finish on the Kenyan Coast. The family-friendly safari offers an unforgettable and diverse experience of Kenya’s wildlife, culture, and stunning landscapes. It includes places that we’ve discovered over the years, and is perfect for children and young adults of all ages.

Stage 1

Nairobi

3 Nights

Crossing the Ololo footbridge is the beginning of a unique, once in a life time experience with all of us at Ololo.

3

Nights

You can choose to do as many, or as little, of the adventures we have on offer. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives, visit the nearby baby elephant orphanage, or simply relax around the pool with a sundowner and bitings. Guests also enjoy a guided tour of our organic farm, that produces most of the food for your plate!

We can take you on game drives into the only national park in the world on the edge of a capital city. Nairobi National Park is a surprise package and many of these birds and animals are visible from our terrace and restaurant as they move around the bush. Ololo also takes guests to visit the renowned Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage without having to exit the national park.

You are invited to take part on an excursion to Karen to visit the famed Karen Blixen Museum, the Giraffe Centre or Kazuri Beads. Or more to your inclination some shopping at local markets and boutique stores can be arranged. Anselm Hot Glass Studio and Kitengela Glass is a walk away across the neighboring farms to Ololo, with one of our Askari guides.

Stage 3

Masai Mara

3 Nights

The King of the Kenyan safari, the Masai Mara is bucket-list travel down to a tee.

3

Nights

The iconic wildlife (think big cats, buffalo, elephant, giraffe, zebra and the famous river crossings of the Great Migration from July to September) is matched by some of the most beautiful scenery in Africa – and there’s a lengthy list of activities to help you discover it all.

Morning and afternoon game drives are the bread and butter of a Masai Mara safari, and all-day expeditions are common especially during the Great Migration. There’s usually a bush breakfast under a shady tree or a mobile sundowner bar to complete the experience too. Specific to the private Mara Conservancies are walking safaris and night drives, both allowing you to get to grips with the landscape in different ways. In specific locations, early-morning hot air balloon flights are possible – definitely worth booking in advance – as are horseback safaris for varying capabilities. Finally, many camps have partnerships with local Maasai communities for a chance to join them in their daily life.

Lamu, Kenyan Coast

3 Nights

The Kenyan Coast is very laid back, the perfect place to relax after days on safari

3

Nights

Located on Kenya's northern coast, Lamu Island seamlessly blends the charm of an African beach haven with rich Swahili heritage. Covered in ninth-century ruins, sandy beaches, and boho boutique hotels, Lamu is one of the Indian Ocean’s best-kept secrets.

Lamu is one of those magical places where life slows down and every moment feels special. You can wander the charming streets of Lamu Old Town, full of history and beautiful Swahili architecture, or hop on a bicycle and explore the beaches and nearby villages at your own pace. A dhow trip is a must – whether it’s gliding through the mangroves, visiting tiny islands, or catching a perfect sunset over the ocean. There’s also time to relax by the beach, enjoy fresh seafood, or try a bit of snorkeling and birdwatching. It’s a place where culture, nature, and calm come together, and every day brings something new to discover.
