We designed this itinerary to give you a well-rounded experience of Zambia, combining the wildlife-rich South Luangwa with the scenic Lower Zambezi.
It’s a journey that mixes classic game viewing with more immersive activities, from walking safaris to time spent on the river.
Ideal for couples and safari enthusiasts, this itinerary can be adapted to suit your pace and interests.
Lower Zambezi National Park is set along the banks of the Zambezi River, offering a combination of strong wildlife viewing and a wide range of water-based safari activities.
We really like the Lower Zambezi for its setting as much as its wildlife. The Zambezi River runs right through the park, creating a constant source of life and activity, with animals regularly coming down to drink along its banks.
Days here can be as active or relaxed as you like. Head out on game drives or walking safaris, or spend time on the river by boat or canoe, which gives a completely different perspective. Drifting quietly past elephants feeding on the riverbanks is one of those moments that really stays with you. Fishing is also an option for those interested, particularly for catch-and-release tiger fishing.
South Luangwa National Park is one of Africa’s most unspoiled wildlife areas and is widely regarded as the home of the walking safari.
South Luangwa is one of our favourite places in Zambia. It feels remote and untouched, with the Luangwa River shaping the landscape and supporting a high concentration of wildlife.
This is where you can really immerse yourself in the bush. Walking safaris are a highlight here, offering a slower, more detailed way to experience the environment, while game drives—both during the day and into the evening—give you the chance to see a wide range of wildlife, including elephants, big cats and the endemic Thornicroft’s giraffe.
Time in camp is just as rewarding, often overlooking the river or nearby lagoons, with animals regularly passing through. It’s a classic safari setting that offers both variety and consistency in wildlife viewing.
