A restored Big Five reserve in southern Malawi, set within beautiful Miombo woodland and riverine landscapes.
Majete Wildlife Reserve is one of Africa’s great conservation success stories. Once depleted of wildlife, it has been carefully restored and is now home to the Big Five. Set within a diverse landscape of Miombo woodland, open plains and river systems, the reserve offers a quieter, more intimate safari experience in southern Malawi.
During your stay, enjoy guided game drives through the reserve, where you’ll have the chance to see elephants, lions, rhinos and a variety of plains game. The Shire River adds another dimension to your safari, attracting wildlife and offering beautiful scenery throughout. Activities are flexible, allowing you to explore at your own pace while learning about the conservation work that has brought Majete back to life.
Rolling tea estates and dramatic mountain scenery in southern Malawi’s highlands.
Set on the slopes of Thyolo Mountain, this region offers a complete change of pace. Lush tea plantations stretch across the hills, while Mount Mulanje rises dramatically in the distance, creating one of Malawi’s most striking landscapes.
Spend time exploring the historic tea estate, visiting the factory and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. A highlight of your stay is a guided hike on Mount Mulanje, where trails wind through forest and open path landscapes to waterfalls and viewpoints. It’s a rewarding day out, with time to swim in natural pools and take in the fresh mountain air before returning for a relaxed evening.
A scenic park along the Shire River, known for its wildlife and exceptional birdlife.
Liwonde National Park is one of Malawi’s top wildlife destinations, centred around the Shire River and its floodplains. The mix of riverine forest, lagoons and open areas creates ideal conditions for both game viewing and birding.
Explore the park on game drives and boat safaris along the Shire River, where elephants, hippos and crocodiles are often seen up close. Birdlife here is particularly rewarding, with a wide range of species to spot throughout the lagoons and woodland. There is also the opportunity to visit nearby communities, offering insight into daily life in rural Malawi.
A vast freshwater lake with clear waters, sandy beaches and vibrant local culture.
Lake Malawi is the third largest lake in Africa and one of its most beautiful. Its clear blue waters and remote shores provide the perfect setting to unwind at the end of your journey.
Your time at the lake can be as active or relaxed as you choose. Swim, snorkel or kayak in the clear waters, or take part in a range of optional watersports. For a slower pace, simply enjoy the beach, take in the views or head out on a traditional dhow at sunset. There are also opportunities to visit nearby villages and experience the warmth and hospitality Malawi is known for.
